All You Ever Wanted, Little Knights LA

A Parent + Me oasis in your very own backyard, “Just West of the Eastside”

If necessity is the mother of invention, then frustration must be her kick ass auntie. Preschool owners Renae Plant and Livinio Stuyck saw firsthand how parents struggle daily with finding engaging early education classes, a supportive community AND enough time to exercise. As a mom of three children herself, even trying to commit to a regular local Zumba class between school drop-offs became a logistical nightmare. “The problem was always how to get a consistent, quality workout fit in to a busy schedule” notes Renae, “without having to pay a personal trainer (too expensive) or a babysitter (most won’t come for just an hour)? Working out at home is often lonely and an outdoor Baby Boot Camp is often a bust as toddlers want to wriggle out of strollers.”

The solution, Renae and Livinio found, lay in a mash-up of everything they hold dear to create a lifestyle and to share it with a broader community: fun, family-forward exercise, early education in a holistic, eco-friendly environs, authentic community advocacy, giant aerial silks and a disco ball with 80s and 90s dance tunes. But no such magical place existed. So they built it themselves!

Once upon a time, in a faraway land in the City of Angels, Little Knights was born…

Renae, an indefatigable Aussie expat, and her Madrid-born husband Livinio Stuyck recently opened Little Knights LA after twelve months of design and construction. This coming as a physical extension to their already wildly popular Eastside preschool, Camelot Kids Child Development Center. The Camelot campus provides childcare to over 180 families daily, with a transitional Kinder program and preschool classes from ages two to six. Little Knights lives on the same complex as Camelot Kids Child Development Center. It completes a long term vision to have a truly all-inclusive place for families and their children.

Fitness Fun, Early Learning, Parent Resources + Community in a lush environment and one-stop shop for busy LA families.

Little Knights fills in where Camelot leaves off; early morning Fitness classes for convenience, workshops for parent education and Parent + Me enrichment classes for little ones 0-36 months and their parent or caregiver all while connecting with community. Additionally, there is an adorably decorated and well curated [bump] boutique which offers the latest in uncommon goods for mamas and papas, toys for children and accessories for the home. Hold on, the fun doesn’t stop there! In Renae’s quest for excellence the “Womb Room” was born. Situated between two outdoor play yards, adjacent the colorful main multi-use class/workout room and the [bump] shop, sits a lush, and cozy resting spot where momas can breastfeed and nurture their babies and papas can join in for the fun. Take a load off on the oversized bean bags while lounging carefree amongst the soft pink tones that decorate the entire room. A place to take a break in the midst of transition from a Fitness class or school drop off, this is a dream place, a place to meet parents’ needs and welcome the community in, a lifestyle made in heaven.

To take us back to Little Knights earlier conundrum of fitting Fitness in, Little Knights also offers cutting edge exercise classes led by LA’s top fitness instructors. Classes are thoughtfully designed for new and seasoned parents to come together, gain new skills, new friendships and get fit as their little ones are tended nearby. “While you lunge, they’ll learn,” notes Livinio. “You can have a serious work out any morning of the week while your child is nearby with our licensed childcare staff member. We want you to be able to get your sweat on, meet other community members and commit to all that is Little Knights LA.”

Little Knights early education enrichment component is an additional asset to this already robust vision. Parent + Me program has three components and is open to babies 5-12 months in the Incy Wincy Dragons, 12-18 months in the Itty Bitty Dragons and 18-36 months in the Discovery Dragons program. Classes are held each day of the week and run for a month each. You can introduce your child to Sign Language, Spanish, Drumming, Yoga, Art and more at an early age, amongst other families that are learning early, too! With the vision of Little Knights being one that builds community, Renae and Livinio believe in consistency with classes to ensure long-term success for both parent and child.

Last but not least, Little Knights is a resource center for LA parents and their children. Their weekly Parent & Me groups and workshops include vaccination safety, pregnancy and child birth preparation, baby care, breastfeeding classes, and popular lectures from leaders in their field, “Parents Day Out” & “Disco Knights”dance events. These classes build confidence in new parents and share invaluable information amongst families at all stages and create opportunities to bond and socialize for families. “Learning together builds connections and creates a sense of belonging which makes people truly happy.” Little Knights truly embodies this on many levels.
