The Skid Row Neighborhood Council Subdivision Election will determine whether Skid Row should have its own neighborhood council separate from the rest of Downtown LA. The election is open to all stakeholders within the existing boundaries of the Downtown Los Angeles Neighborhood Council and the Historic Cultural Neighborhood Council (which encompasses the Arts District and Chinatown).
A “stakeholder” is defined as any individual who lives, works or owns real property in the neighborhood, and also those participate in a community organization such as educational, nonprofit and religious organizations. The proposed boundaries of the Skid Row Neighborhood Council run from Main Street East to Alameda Street, and from 7th Street North to 3rd Street. This area includes several recently renovated loft buildings and new market-rate apartment buildings on the East side Main Street. A map of the proposed boundaries can be seen here.
The easiest way for a stakeholder to vote in this election is to register and vote online. Online Voter Registration closes on Sunday, April 2, 2017. If you miss the deadline to register online, you can still register and vote at any one of twelve popup polls around Downtown LA.
I’m a local real estate agent, I sell the lofts and condos in DTLA, and I am a resident myself. If you care about the future of Downtown LA and want to live in a city where our streets are safe and sanitary for everyone, please register and vote in this election.
